OO-AGD Westland
IV
(c/n WA1898)
This
aircraft was built with the intention of it being VH-ULF for the Shell Oil
Company of
Australia. In the event it was deemed not suitable (with three
in-line engines) for operating
in the hot Australian climate and the contract was withdrawn.
Re-engined with Armstrong
Siddeley Genet motors it was sold to Sabena who
operated it from 1930 until 7 December
1934 when it was destroyed in a freak accident when the
Belgian Air Force Fairy Fox III
serialed O-47 crashed into hangar No 7 at the old
Evere airfield near Brussels wherein
-AGD was burnt beyond repair in the resultant fire.
