VH-GVE de
Havilland D.H.104
Dove
(c/n 04120)
In 1955 Southern Airlines upgraded their equipment with the purchase of
two Doves from
Airlines (WA) Ltd of
Perth. VH-GVE
was formerly VH-AWE. Prior to that it had seen
service with Mandated
Airlines in New Guinea
as VH-MAL. However, it was
delivered
new to East African
Airways Corporation as
VP-KEJ. It is seen above at Essendon with
the Anson
it replaced in the background. Southern adopted a new livery in
1957 and a shot
of
it so painted appears immediately below. Below that is a Greg
Banfield photo showing
it at Bankstown in
1962 after Southern had disposed of it. Finally at the foot
of the page is
an image showing this
Dove as it was originally delivered from D.H.'s at Leavesden to EAAC
in 1947 as VP-KEJ.
Ansett-ANA took over Southern's routes in 1958, and
its assets were
sold
off. VH-GVE was re-registered VH-DSM
in 1963. It is now at
the Queensland Air
Museum at
Caloundra re-painted as Mandated's VH-MAL.
