VH-AAA de Havilland D.H.83 Fox Moth
(c/n DHA6)
These
three shots are from the Neil Follett collection, via Geoff
Goodall VH-AAA
was one of
two Fox Moths built
by de Havilland of Australia at Mascot in 1937, some three years after
pro-
duction at Hatfield
had ceased when D.H.83s were hard to find overseas. -AAA was
registered
to the Bush Church Aid
Society of Ceduna SA for whom it had been custoim-built.
It was
dedicated at a service
at Sydney's St.
Andrew Cathedral on 19 February 1938 and then flown to
Ceduna. It was used
to take a doctor to
outback medical clinics and could carry a stretcher patient.
DCA ordered civil aircraft to be
painted in camouflage in 1942 until the threat of a
possible Japanese
invasion
decreased. The upper and lower photos show it
in war-time livery. I suspect the photo
at the foot of the page was
taken pre-war. This Fox Moth was
later reregistered VH-CAS for
"Church Aid Society" then
sold as VH-GAS.
