Westland Witch J8596
The Witch was built to the same spec (23/25) as the Gloster Goring and the Hawker Harrier.
. This called for a two-seat
high performance day bomber/torpedo bomber. By that time,
West-
land's design staff were thoroughly monoplane-minded and came up with
the fairly large (61 ft
span) parasol winged design seen
above. Built around a 480 hp Bristol Jupiter VIIIF engine,
the aircraft was capable of carrying an
internally stowed 520 lb bomb. No contracts were let
under this spec and the Witch wound up with
the Parachute Training Unit at Henlow.
