Hawker
Hotspur K8309
Looks like a Defiant,
doesn't it? Well, the Hotspur was actually a Henley converted to
meet the
same spec (F9/35) as
the Defiant. However, by the time that the Hotspur was completed
(1938)
the
Defiant had already flown, and contracts already let to Boulton &
Paul, hence the entire Hot-
spur project was abandoned. In any
case, Hawkers were far too busy ramping up for Hurricane
production at the
time. Just as well, since the turret fighter concept was a dismal
failure. K8309
was the only example built.
