Gorcock J7503
(c/n
Three of
these
experimental fighters were built (J7501-7503) The
first two Gorcocks were
of mixed
construction with steel fuselage
longerans and wooden wing spars
and ribs. The third
machine,
seen above, was basically all metal. All,
of course, had fabric
covering. The three
machines were
fitted with various Napier Lion
engines, and, despite their being used purely for
research,
carried twin synchronized 7.7 mm
Vickers machine guns. Design of J7503, with a
geared Lion IV
engine, commenced in mid-1925 although it was not completed until June
1927.
