Douglas RD-2 Dolphin    (129/V111)

Although an excellent image, like many of the photographs I received from Douglas in the 1940s,
this one depicts a machine devoid of any serial number, unit markings etc, thus making positive
identification difficult.  Since the print was dated June 1932 I suspect that this was, in fact, the
RD-2, serial number 129, (later V111)  which was later named "Adhara".  (In the period 1933-
1936 all Coast Guard aircraft carried star names).  One each of the variants RD, RD-1 and RD-2
were delivered from February 1931 followed by ten RD-4s in 1935.
