de
Havilland D.H.112 Venom
FB.1 VV612
That only basic difference between a Vampire
and an early Venom was the development of a new
wing, tip
tanks, and the substitution of a D.H. Ghost in lieu of a Goblin engine
on the latter machine.
VV612 was
the prototype Venom and was, in fact, built as a Vampire FB.5 which was
then modi-
fied into the Venom prototype, as seen above. The Venom
would later change its appearance
appreciably
when the NF (night fighter) series was developed, incorporating a
longer radar nose
and also
dorsal fairings on the twin boom fins.
