Bristol 90
Berkeley J7405
This handsome machine (well, I
think it is) is the third prototype of the Bristol Model 90 Berkeley.
The aircraft
was built in response to Air Ministry Spec 26/23 (ultimately won by the
Hawker Horsley)
calling for a large biplane to be built around the
650 hp Rolls Royce Condor III engine, and capable
of carrying a 500 lb bomb over a range of 1,200 miles. Quite a
feat for 1923. All three samples
of the Berkeley were eventually flown by the RAF for
experimental purposes, the production contract,
as stated above, being given to
the Horsley.
