Armstrong
Whitworth
A.W.52G RG324
The A.W.52G was a one third scale model of a proposed four
jet flying wing bomber first suggested
in 1944.
Armstrong Whitworth had achieved a considerable amount of success in
their studies of
the laminar flow wing and were anxious to put their theories to
practical testing. Although the end of
hostilities put paid to
further development of the bomber idea, a contract was received to
produce
two jet powered
prototypes as possible mail carriers. The above proof
of concept glider was first
flown on 3 March 1945, and
was towed by a Whitley V. The one and only prototype is
presumed
to have been scrapped.
