Polskie Linie Lotnicze (LOT) was established in January 1, 1929, taking over existing
domestic
routes from Aerolot and Aero, the former founded in 1922
and the latter in 1925). Initial
service
was between Warsaw and Poznan, although additional services to
Bucharest and other
European capitals soon followed. The new company immediately
sought replacements for its
Junkers
F.13 type aircraft, and the choice was made to accept the locally
designed Podiaska
Wytwornia Samolotow P.W.S. 24 for this task. The Skoda-built Wright
Whirlwind J5 radial
engine
was used. Accomodation was for a pilot and four
passengers. The prototype
(SP-AGR)
and five production machines (SP-AJF thru SP-AJK) were delivered early
in
