OO-AIE
SABCA-Fokker F.VIIb-3m
(c/n unknown)
Work horse of the SABENA fleet in the late 1920s early 1930s, was the
Fokker F.VIIb
of the three engined variety. Except for the first one, OO-AID,
which was Fokker-built
in Holland, the rest were all manufactured under licence in Belgium by Sociétés
Anonyme
Belge de
Constructions Aéronautiques (SABCA), an aerospace
company founded in
1920, and which still exists today. This Sabena shot shows -AIE
being refueled, circa
1931 (the year I was born). SABCA may have levied constructors
numbers on these
aircraft, but if they did, such data is lost in the iniquities of time.
OO-AIE crashed on
approach to
Dortmund on 22 December 1933.in unknown circumstances. Although
there were no casualties, the aircraft was written off.
