LN-DAB Junkers W.34W
(c/n
2832)
LN-DAB was named 'Ternen" ('Seagull', after the bird
in the logo of Fred. Olsen & Co) and
was registered to Det Norske Luftfartselskap, Fred. Olsen &
Bergenske A/S. It was flown
as a float
plane throughout its life. It was the first aircraft assembled from
scratch at the AB Flyg-
industri in Limhamn, Sweden. It flew in July 1935 on the
Bergen-Tromsø trial service, but, in
the event,
was considered too small and was transferred to flying joyrides, crew
training and air
mail service. In the
summer of 1939, it operated as an aerial photography aircraft in the
north
of Sweden. In the
autumn of that year the fuel tank imploded and it was at the DNL
workshop
for
repairs when Nazi-Germany invaded the country. After a
failure to repair it successfully,
LN-DAB was written off and scrapped at a scrap yard
in Moss. The grainy picture above came
from an early DNL handbook.
