G-APKV de Havilland D.H.114 Heron 1B
(c/n 14045)
This Heron was delivered new to PLUNA in January
1954 as CX-AOU. It returned to the U.K.
in March 1958 and was refurbished by Eagle Aircraft
Services before being on-sold to Gulf Aviation
in September of
that year, hence its "late" (for a Heron) UK rego.
Note odd spacing between the
G-A and PKV. The
above shot, from the John Havers collection, was taken at Bahrain,
circa 1958.
It later went
to Channel Airways (in 1969) and was broken up at Southend, Essex in
1972. Both
the Heron and
the Dove in the background (G-AMKT) display 'BOAC' type livery, since
the British
state airline was a major
shareholder in the company at that time.
