G-AAXJ de Havilland
D.H.80A Puss Moth
(c/n 2006)
By the late 1920s the affluent
touring lightplane flyers of the day were demanding an aircraft with
an
enclosed cockpit. de Havilland's answer was the Puss
Moth. To improve the pilot's view over
the
nose, the de Havilland Gipsy II engine was inverted. The aircraft
was designed for a pilot plus
two passengers aft. Entry
was gained via two doors on the starboard side. This early Puss
Moth
was
exported in India in July 1931 (the month before I was born) becoming
VT-ACZ.
