G-AADV de Havilland D.H.60G Gipsy Moth
(c/n 998)
This Short Brothers designed amphibious float
was fitted to a Gipsy Moth in 1929. It had
previously
been experimentally fitted on two Short designs: the Gurnard and
the Mussel.
Ironically, this Moth was written off on
Christmas Eve, 1929 when it ditched into the sea
off Felixstowe. I
believe it had been converted back to a wheeled undercarriage by that
time!
