D-AJIE Heinkel He 116 V2
The He 116 was a
built to explore the possibilities of developing a high altitude
airliner capable
of flying
from Germany to the Far East which meant flying over the Pamir range on
the Tajik-
Afghan
border. Six were built and D-AJIE was the prototype of the civil
version. Interestingly
two went to Manchurian Air Transport
and made record making delivery runs. As can be seen
the elliptical wing and tail
surfaces previously used on the He 70 and He 111 are much in evidence.
