This image is from the William T. Larkins collection, although I doubt
that Bill took it, since it
shows the excessive
Lockheed on finals at Oakland in 1940. Bill would have been about
17.
Delivered new in
1937 to the Secretaría de Comunicaciones y Transportes (SCT).
the L-12
carried the name "Presidente Carranza".
Later to the Mexican Air Force. It had an accident
whilst landing at Ensenada, Baja California on 2 April 1942.
Repaired by Lockheed it was
sold in
Venezuela as YV-P-AED, later reregistered YV-P-AEL. It
returned to the U.S
. in the 1950s as N4857V, then N517SA and finally N33RA,
whereby it is still registered.
