XA-KIL Convair 340-51
(c/n 142)
The
quality of the prints I received from Aeronaves de Mexico in the 1950s
were never of a very
high
quality. Consequently, this is the best I can do with this
CVAC 340. Four new 340s were
purchased
in 1954 as "DC-3 replacements". However, insofar as the airline
had almost 30 of the
latter, it
seems they had to lumber on with the old workhorse over many of their
routes, limiting the
340s to the
prestige runs. This aircraft came back to the US in 1978 (as
N30DR) where it was
withdrawn from
use and stored.
