VP-TAK Lockheed 414
Hudson
(c/n 7569)
For a more detailed history of British
West Indian Airways see the narrative under the next
entry, VP-TAN.
However, upon its founding in 1940 the airline
opted for twin engined
Lockheed transports,
one of which was the ex RCAF Hudson, seen above in this rendering
of a
post card gleaned from the airline in 1947. In
addition to its five Lodestars the airline
had three Hudsons (VP-TAJ, -TAK and -TAL),
two Lockheed 14s (VP-TAF and -TAH)
and
a Lockheed 12A (VP-TAI).. Repeated correspondence
to Port of Spain never did
result in shots of the
latter two types! I assumed they were
all scrapped when BWIA
acquired its Vickers Vikings.
