PP-PAP Fairchild
A-942-A
(c/n 9402)
In 1935 Pan American ordered six of these
unique little amphibians for their services up the
Amazon River. It was known at Fairchild as the Model 91 "Jungle
Clipper", although the
correct
designation was the A-942-A.. In the event it turned out that the
sparsely operated
route from Para to Manaus
did not require all six and only two ever went to Pan do
Brasil.
This machine
was originally
NC14744. (Of the remaining four, two went to Japan and two
were sold
privately). PP-PAP was written off in March 1939 when it
sank near Belem,
State of
Para.
