VT-CGP Douglas
DC-3
(c/n 12928)
Nice shot of an Air-India International DC-3 from the Air India
Collector collection. Created
soon after WW II,
Air-India became Air-India International for a while in the late 1940s,
before
being changed back again to simply Air-India. The
'international' portion of the airline flew
flights to East Africa in the early days, to provide service for the
large number of expatriate
Indians living there. . International services further abroad
were not carried out until the airline
received its Lockheed
049 Constellations in 1948. .
VT-CGP was the former
RAF Dakota III KG524, civilianized in October 1946 to Kalinga
Air Lines.
It went to Air-India in 1948, and was then impressed back into service
again in
January 1965 when it joined the Indian Air Force as
BJ623. Fate unknown.
