VR-SDP de Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth
(c/n DHA136)
Here's a super picture of a nicely
liveried Tiger from the John Hopton collection taken in Singapore,
circa 1960. Originally A17-139, this aircraft sold at the
big Commonwealth Disposals Commission
sale at Western Junction, Launceston in May 1946 to Arthur Schutt who,
at the time, was working
out of
Essendon. It was ferried to Melbourne in a mass formation of ex
RAAF Tigers and registered
VH-ATO on
4 November 1946. It was one of several machines
included in a group of Tigers sold
by
Victorian & Interstate Airways to Malaya in May 1948. It was
subsequently registered VR-RBH
to the Penang
Flying Club. In 1952 it moved south and was sold to the Royal
Singapore Flying Club
becoming
VR-SDP based at Kallang. It was withdrawn from use in
1961 and stricken from the
Singapore register on 25 October 1961 of that year
