VQ-PAR D.H.89a Dragon Rapide
(c/n 6806)
An ex-RAF Dominie (NR718), this D.H.89a went to Palestine in 1946
(before the establishment
of the State of Israel). It was operated by Aviron, the training
company which took over the old
Palestine Airways. Enlargement of the nose of the machine
is seen below. Services were
operated within Palestine and to Beirut. In the photo at
the foot of the page it is seen as Haifa
in 1946 along with the
RWD-13 VQ-PAM. These images are courtesy of the Kluger Zoltan
collection
VQ-PAR was impressed into the fledgling Israeli Air Force in 1948, and
then was
released onto the
Israeli civil register as 4X-ACU.
It was damaged beyond repair in
an Egyptian air attack on May 15, 1948.
