VQ-PAK
RWD-8
(c/n 178)
The Aviron airline company was established in 1936 to train local
Jewish pilots. Since its founders
came as immigrants from Poland, it is not usual, therefore, to note
that at least six of its fleet were
from that nation's well established private aircraft industry.
The above shot, from the Kluger
Zoltan collection shows -PAK, in a kibbutz in the northern Jordan
Valley, circa 1937, along with
another training aircraft operated, a
RWD-13, SP-BFM which became VQ-PAM. Oddly,
-PAK had originally been registered VQ-PAG but this was changed, for
some reason to -PAK
in 1937. Possibly the former had some unsuitable connotation in
the local language?
Most of the RWD-13s were impressed into the fledgling Israeli Air Force
in 1948, but -PAK
had been written off by then.
