EP-AED Douglas
DC-3
(c/n 7367)
The lovely shot above was taken at Tehran in April 1960,
although I do not have the
provenance for it. This DC-3 had 'been
around the block' before it was finally scrapped.
Born as a C-47-DL in late 1942, it went to the USAAF as 42-5673.
It spent its time in
Oran, Algeria during the war, and then went to Russia when
hostilities ceased. It was
civilianized as SP-LCA
for LOT in Poland in 1946, before going to Iranair in June 1959.
It was later leased in the Republic of the Congo as 9Q-AED and
then saw service in Zaire
as 9T-PIF. Some reports
have
it as returning to Iranair in 1963, but that is
doubtful.
Judging by the way these aircraft were used (abused?) in central Africa
during those
times, I doubt that Iran
would want it
back.
