4R-AAB de
Havilland D.H.82A tiger
Moth
(c/n 83645)
This Tiger was the former RAF T7179, civilianized in 1947 as
G-AKEE. It was shipped by the
owner to Ceylon, where it became VP-CAW for the Ceylon Air Academy.
. Upon Ceylon's
gaining independence in 1948 it was reregistered CY-AAB, and again,
when that country changed
its name to Sri Lanka, as 4R-AAB. It was then taken on
charge by the Sri Lankan Air Force
as CX123. I has been restored and is now in the SLAF
Museum. The origin of the above
shot is somewhat obscure, (DP collection?) but was taken at Ratmalana
Airport circa 1948.
