ZS-DGN   Avro York  C.1                                                   (c/n  MW107)

This York was originally the RAF's MW107.  It was seconded to the South African Air Force
as 4999 in May 1944 where it served as the VIP transport for General Smuts, and named
'Oobaas'. .  It was acquired by Tropic Airways in 1952 to augment the DC-3 ZS-DFB (q.v.).
When that latter aircraft crashed into the sea in July 1952, the York remained the only aircraft.
Nevertheless, it may many trips to various parts of Africa and to the U.K before being sold to
Trans Mediterranean Airways in 1956 as OD-ACN.   R.A. Scholefield's photo above shows
                                      it at Blaxckbushe in 1955.
