VT-TAU  Airspeed A.S.65 Consul                                 (c/n 5175)

Built as Airspeed Oxford EB974, this machine was converted to Consul standard in 1947 as
G-AJWY and registered to Airspeed Ltd.    It was sold in Tanganyika as VR-TAU in March
1948 to United Air Services Ltd of Dar-es-Salaam.    After two years' service it was purchased
by W.A. Rollason Ltd of Croydon and reverted back to G-AJWY.   In September 1950 it was
sold abroad again, to Jordan as TJ-ABA  and registered to
Air Jordan in Amman.       A scant
month later, on 31 October 1950, it crashed whilst taking off from
Jerusalem-Atarot Airport
for reasons unknown. The six occupants (pilot and five passengers) were rescued, but TJ-ABA
                                     was written off.
