ST-AAH Douglas
DC-3
(c/n 15654/27099)
Formed in 1946 with four D.H.104 Doves, Sudan Airways did not expand
its fleet with DC-3s
until 1953. The fledgling airline obtained technical support from
Airwork Ltd in the U.K. and
its fleet was maintained by that company. The above image is via
the Gatwick Airport collection
and was taken in 1958 during one of the technical support
flights. ST-AAH was the former
RAF Dakota IV KN231, civilianized in 1953 to Airwork Ltd as
G-AMZW.. After overhaul
it
went immediately to Sudan Airways. It was acquired by the South
African Air Force in
1975 and given the serial no 6850, possibly for museum appearance use
only. It is currently
on display at the South African National Military Museum near
Johannesburg.
