CF-AXO  Fairchild 82D                                                                (c/n  64)

This aircraft was Canadian built as a model 34-42 Niska (with a Ranger engine) and then
converted to a 82D before being sold to Canadian Pacific.      The above shot is via the
Leslie Corness collection and was taken at Edmonton, circa 1937.     -AXO wasn't with
CPAL long but was sold in 1938 to Manitoba Government Air Services and reregistered
CF-MAK. It was still extant in 1964 when it disappeared on a local flight near Contwoyto
Lake NWT in June of that year.     So remote is this srea that the aircraft was not recovered
until 2009, with the remains of the bodies of the pilot, Chuck McAvoy, and two passengers
                                 inside.
