Piper PA-23-250
Aztec N4552P
(c/n 27-58)
In 1959 Piper updated the Apache
by giving it swept tail surfaces. Initially these were
produced
as the
PA-23-235 Apache. Lagging sales and a power upgrade to the 250
h.p.O-540 engine
caused the manufacturer to change
the name of the model 23 to Aztec. Above is an early preserved
one
photographed at Triple-W Airpark, Fuqua-Varina, North Carolina in 2002
while below an
example photographed in 1960 whilst it was still new at Hawthorne
Municipal Airport, Southern
California..
