Piper PA-23-250 Aztec    N4552P                         (c/n 27-58)

                                 

                                      In 1959 Piper updated the Apache by giving it swept tail surfaces.   Initially these were produced
                                      as the PA-23-235 Apache.  Lagging sales and a power upgrade to the 250 h.p.O-540 engine
                                      caused the manufacturer to change the name of the model 23 to Aztec.   Above is an early preserved
                                      one photographed at Triple-W Airpark, Fuqua-Varina, North Carolina in 2002 while below an
                                      example photographed in 1960 whilst it was still new at Hawthorne Municipal Airport, Southern
                                      California..
