Funk
B "Bee"
N24154
(c/n 180)
The original Funk B was powered by a 63 hp
modified Ford automobile engine The brothers Funk,
Joe and Howard teamed up with Mr. Pratt Jones to develop this
engine-airplane combination and
production got
under way in 1939. Their original factory was in Akron,
Ohio, but they moved it to
Coffeyville, Kansas in 1941. The above machine was built in 1940
although it appears as if the Ford
motor engine had been replaced with a Continental by the time I took
this photograph at the old San
Fernando
Airport in 1963.
