Funk Model B   N9000                                       (c/n B-2)

This aircraft was the pre-production Funk Model B built in 1937.  I photographed it at
Fullerton Municipal Airport in Southern California in 1963.     This original aircraft had
the Akron Model E-200-E4L engine, a modified Ford power plant developed by the
Funk Brothers.  The first production batch of Funks were powered by this engine which
was rated at 63 hp.   The second batch had the more conventional 75 hp Lycoming
GO-145-C2 engine.  Production continued after WWII although the aircraft never
did sell well and Funk ceased building them in 1948.  The type certificate was sold
to Thomas H. McClish and oddly, the US Civil Register insists on identifying them
as  "McClish Funk B" .  McClish later sold the certificate on the Dr. Larry Smith of
Canfield, Ohio, but no further Funks were ever built.  .
