Universal Air Lines System
Fokker F-32 Atlantic 124M
(c/n 1201)
The Fokker F-32 was the first four engined aircraft designed and built
in the United States.
Ten were
built at Teterboro in 1927/28. Universal Airlines was
originally founded as the
Continental Airlines Corporation in July 1928, but when services
began in September, the
name was
changed. It originally provided service between Chicago and
Cleveland. In
December
1928 the company absorbed Northern Air Lines and Robertson Aircraft when
it became
known as Universal Air Lines System. This greatly expanded its
theater of
operations to Minneapolis and St. Louis. Universal
itself was absorbed into the ever
increasing Aviation Corporation (AVCO) in 1929.
