Transcontinental
Air Transport Keystone K-78D Patrician NC10N
(c/n 206)
This elegant airliner, when built in 1928, was the largest and faster
tri-motor commercial
transport of the day. 18-20 passengers were accommodated and it
was built for coast
to coast service. Unfortunately it was a victim of the Great
Depression of 1929 and only
three were eventually built. TAT had ordered ten of them, but, as
indicated, the curtailing
of service due to the economic times resulted in the order being
cancelled, although
NC10N did operate several revenue passenger flights.
Despite Keystone's reducing
the price from $90,000 to $65,000 there were no buyers and NC10N was
sent back
to the manufacturer. Fate unknown. .
