Robertson Air Lines Ryan B-5 Brougham
NC738M
(c/n 238)
Frank and William Robertson had set up their Robertson Airplane Service
Company in
1930, following
the sale of their Robertson Aircraft Co to Universal Aviation
Corporation.
Scheduled passenger service was provided from St. Louis to New Orleans
via Memphis,
Greenwood and Jackson, under the name Robertson Air Lines.
. A modest fleet of Ryan
B-5 Broughams
was used. They had hoped to be granted an air mail
contract, but Post-
master General Walter F. Brown had other ideas. He
didn't like small carriers (not enough
leeway for
corruption), and gave American Airways the so-called Mississippi route
instead.
The Williams Brothers
consequently folded their airline in 1931.
