Pan American Airways  Fokker F.10A  NC9700                        ( c/n  1010)

In 1929 Pan American acquired two Fokker F-10As, NC9700 seen above and NC9701 for
use on the Miami-Havana-Santiago air mail run.     In fact, on the original of this PAA photo,
the inscription on the nose of this aircraft can clearly be seen to  read "U.S. Mail /  Cuban
Mail"       Unfortunately NC9770's life was short lived inasmuch as on 13 June 1929 it hit
                                 some
telephone wires while taking off from a muddy field at Santiago de Cuba and crashed.
