Hanford Airlines  Lockheed  Vega 5-B     NC905Y                    (c/n  133)

Hanford Airlines acquired four Lockheed Vegas in 1934.  The rare shot above is from the
Robert M. Campbell collection and was taken at Aberdeen, SD in 1936.  Previous owner
for the Vega was apparently the Hal Roch studios. The airline had a network of routes from
Kansas City to Minneapolis including several cities in South Dakota.   This Vega was still
with the airline when it was acquired in May 1936 by Thomas Ryan III following the death
its founder, Arthur Hanford Jr. in a plane crash in 1935.         He renamed  the airline Mid-
Continent in 1937 and shortly after that the Vegas were sold, NC905Y  becoming XA-DEB
                                           for Lineas Aereas Mexicanas.
