Clifford Ball (Airlines)  New Standard D-27  NC9122      (c/n  114)

To augment the Waco 9s, Clifford Ball purchased four New Standard D-27s.  This variantion of the
popular basic New Standard biplane was designed specifically for the carriage of mails, and was a
single seater.  It had marginally better performance than a standard New Standard (sorry for the play
on words).  Passengers were carried for the first time in 1928 after Fairchild FC-2s had been pur-
chased.  Clifford Ball also operated some Fairchild 71s.  His route, then extended  from Cleveland to
                                      Washington, was known
as the "Path of the Eagle".
