American Airways Fokker Super Universal
NC9129
(c/n 847)
Some 200 Fokker Super Universals were built in the United States in the
late 1920s, plus a
further 100 or
so manufactured under licence by Nakajima in Japan. NC9129 was
originally
delivered to the
Universal Air Lines System, which then merged into the Aviation
Corporation,
which became
American Airways in 1930. With a fully cantilevered wing, and a
cabin for eight
passengers, it was the latest thing in air travel in its day.
