Allegheny
Airlines British Aircraft Corp BAC-111
N1547 (c/n 041)
When Allegheny
merged with Mohawk Airlines in 1972 it absorbed the latter's fleet of
BAC-111s.
The aircraft fitted well into the airlines short haul routes and, as a
result, it purchased eight more of
them from Braniff. When Bob
Garrard took this image of an ex Braniff example on short finals into
Ronald Reagan National Airport at Washiungton, D.C. in November of
1980, theoretically the air-
line had changed its name to
USAir, but as we can see, N1547 had yet to be repainted. It
was
leased to Air Illinois in 1982.
