ZK-AEK de Havilland D.H.83 Fox Moth
(c/n 4033)
The
above image is via the National Library of New Zealand whilst the photo
below, from the
Ken Meeham collection, shows the Fox Moth in the early
1950s. Originally registered G-ACAJ
in 1932 it was flown by
F/L E.H. Fieldon for HRH the
Prince of Wales. In December of that
year it was re-registered
G-ACDD. It went to Belgium in 1933 as
OO-ENC registered to Guy
Hansez.. Returning to de Havillands for
overhaul, it was sold in New
Zealand in 1935.
It crashed on the Franz Joseph
Glacier in 1943 and was out of action then until
1947. After
several different owners it was exported to Fiji in
1957 as VQ-FAT. Struck
off that register
in 1959, it was 'discovered' and
repatriated back to New Zealand in 1990, and restored as
ZK-AEK. In 2007 it was purchased by a Canadian owner as CF-YPM
(now C-FYPM,
of course) and is now part of the Vintage Wings of Canada on display at
Gatineau, Quebec.
