VH-UUM B.A. Swallow
II
(c/n 409)
This Swallow was first registered in November 1935 to Sydney pilot
J.J.Connolly who named
her "Lucinda". He competed in the SA
Centenary Air Race from Brisbane to Adelaide over
three days in December 1936 but was forced to withdraw on the last day
due to a forced
landing at Rainbow, Victoria. Connolly landed on the town race
track where the Swallow's
wheels become
hopelessly bogged in mud. In April 1938 while owned
by Airflite Ltd at
Mascot it was
damaged in a ground collision with Goya Henry's joyriding Genairco
VH-UOG.

The above photo from the John Hopton collection is thought to have been
taken at West
Wyalong NSW
shortly before the aircraft was struck off
the register in February 1946 by
owner Charles
A. Goodsell of Grenfell, NSW. Correspondent David Bevan
advises (2013)
that VH-UUN had been stored and was moved
to New Zealand in 1990s. The
contemporary
photo below shows the
old bird
being worked on in New Zealand.
A 2018 update from
current owner John Byers of Christchurch NZ advises that his rebuild is
nearing completion
and he hopes the
Swallow will fly again within a year as ZK-UUN.>
