VH-UQB de Havilland D.H. 80A A Puss Moth (c/n 2051)
Here's
-UQB on a sunny day at Bankstown in January, 1954.
The Puss Moth
was then owned
by Sid Marshall, whose "Marshall Airways" appears
on the fin and rudder. Note additional forward
wing strut. I think this was fitted by Sid, as
extra support. At the foot of the page is a photo from the
State Library of NSW collection showing it in
original configuration without this strut. It was owned,
at the time,
by J.C. 'Jimmy' Pollock and this shot was probably taken on the
occasion of the inaugural
pageant
celebrating the formation of the Kempsey Aero Club on the King's
Birthday, 29 June 1936.
. Note the Newcastle Aero Club's D.H. 60GIII Moth VH-URR in the
background of this image.
The photo immediately below of -UQB was taken in
1969 outside Sid's hangar at Bankstown and is
from the archives of the Civil
Aviation Historical Society.
VH-UQB
was originally imported from the U.K. in 1931 where it
was previously G-ABDW. It did,
in fact, return
to the U.K. in 1973, being restored to its former registration, and is
now
on display at the
National Museums of Scotland, Museum of Flight at East
Fortune. The image below from the Bob
Livingstone
collection (vis Ian Mcdonell) shows it as the original G-ABDW) circa
1931.
