VH-UKM de Havilland D.H.60G Gipsy Moth
(c.n 1070)
This photograph
from the Geoff Goodall collection was originally a sepia tint. In
the interests of
conforming with the
rest of the collection I have reduced it to a greyscale
image. The sporty
looking gentleman
is, I believe, Mr. L.S.J. Smith of Guildford, WA, who imported the
aircraft
in 1929.
Assuming he was then in his twenties, if still alive the venerable Mr.
Smith would now
be pushing the
century. VH-UKM was sold to Wings, Ltd of Perth in
November of 1930
and was destroyed
in a crash at Leonora, WA in July of the following year ( a few months
before
I
was born!).
