VH-UZR Genairco
(c/n 11)
VH-UZR began life as VH-UNT
built in the
Genairco hangar at Mascot in April 1930 and fitted
with a Cirrus Hermes. It was bought new by airline
pioneer Keith Virtue and the following year
registered to
his New England Airways at Lismore NSW. Various crashes and
new owners
followed until it was re-registered VH-UZR in October 1939 to a Mr.
F.E.Biffen of Casino NSW
after a
lenghty rebuild from a previous crash. However it did
not last long, crashing again on
5 April 1940 at Archerfield. The wreck was sold but not rebuilt,
probably due to the war situation,
and was
struck off the register in
1941. Photo below from the Geoff Goodall collection.
