VH-UUC de Havilland D.H.60GIII
Moth
(c/n 5084)
Even on
this lo-res image the -UUC can be just be discerned under the port wing
on this photo,
from the Kevin
OReilly collection, taken by Wally Dalitz at Nhill, Victoria, probably
around 1939.
Moths with the
inverted Gipsy Major engine were almost indistinguishable from the
later Tiger Moth.
-UUC was
first registered in September 1935 to Miss F. Thompson of South Yarra,
Victoria. It
was
probably based at Essendon. In September 1939 it was sold to the
Aero Club of Broken Hill.
Its CofA lapsed in April `1941 and it
was stored until after the war. I wonder why it
wasn't
impressed into service with the
RAAF? Too non standard? Anyway, it was finally
stricken from
the
register in October 1947.
