VH-URU de Havilland D.H.84 Dragon II
(c/n 6088)
Both these images. above from the
archives of
the Civil Aviation Historical Society (via Phil Vabre),
and
below, from the Powerhouse Museum Collection are in the
"better than nothing" category. This
Dragon
was delivered new to Butler Air Transport of Cootamundra, NSW
in
November 1934 and
stayed
with that airline until it was impressed into RAAF service as A34-2 in
January 1940.
It
unfortunately did not last long, being
written off at Cootamundra in November of
1940. I assume
it
also
carried passengers, but clearly the volume of mail seen being loaded in
the shot above would
chew heavily into its useful load of just over
2,000 lbs!
Another shot of
it when brand new, and
sans Butler
titling, appears on the entry for sister craft VH-URV.
