VH-URO de Havilland D.H.84A Dragon
II
(c/n 6068)
VH-URO was delivered
new to WA Airways on 21 April 1934. Eight months later (at
the end of December 1934) it was sold to
W.R. Carpenter and Co Ltd of Salamaua, New
Guinea. Just why it was sold off so quickly I am not
sure. On 30 September 1935 it
crashed at Black Cat
Creek near Wau, NG and was written off. The above rather
uncontrasty image was
acquired from MacRobertson Miller Aviation back in the 1940s
and was
obviously taken when the aircraft was part of the WA Airways
fleet. Wally
Civitco's image below, on the other hand, was taken it situ in New
Guinea, circa 1934.
